In all organisations, effectiveness is wholly dependent on the alignment of four basic building blocks within the organisation: incentives or, more broadly speaking, motivators; decision rights; information; and organisational structure. Planning and communication are paramount for any business wanting to maximise this foundation. A set of policy documents allows management to encapsulate their thinking, and also ensures that employees and other relevant parties have access to that information. Additionally, from an audit perspective, if a business is subjected to an IRD Tax Audit it is interesting to note that the Auditor’s opinion will be influenced positively by a good internal control system that documents company direction, addresses control issues and communicates values.
